Here, any reason to not have school is reason enough. It feels like my children are in school approximately 10 days a year.
This last week we celebrated Himmelfahrt. Literally: “sky ride”. Per Theo: “The day Jesus went home to be with his father.” Apparently this is what they are learning on those 10 days.
So on this 4 day weekend, to celebrate the ascension of Jesus, we went to a festival in a community center in the forest that taught kids how to DJ.
And on the walk home we stopped by a biergarten in the woods that sold candy cigarettes.
Turns out that Himmelfahrt is also Father’s Day in Germany, but I didn’t learn that until after the fact. So my gift to Paul was some quality time with his children on public transit.
Also, you are welcome for the previous post from my drafts folder from 6 years ago that I accidentally published when was futzing around on the dashboard once I figured out how to log back in.
Happy Himmlefahrt to all.
