Yogashark

photo (2)9 week old HH getting her yoga on

A few weeks before I went back to work, I was at the pool and ran into a woman that I used to coach and hadn’t seen in about a year.  She was like, What have you been up to??  I was like, well, I had a baby a month ago…and she was like OH MY GOD I TEACH BABY YOGA you have to come!  I was like that sounds great, but people actually bring their babies to yoga?  She goes, oh no, it’s yoga FOR the baby!

Um.

“Yoga for babies?”
“Oh, yeah, it’s based on Itsy Bitsy Yoga.  We do a lot of stretches and positions…it helps with digestion.”
“Isn’t there a lot of crying and pooping and stuff?”
“Oh, people change and feed during class.  But if someone starts to cry we all sit in a circle and wait, because we don’t want anyone to feel left out.”

Well.  Obviously I had to go (plus classes were free.  And btw, Itsy Bitsy Yoga is a real thing.  Look it up.)

I went once and Marsha, who is kind of a yogi herself, took over after I went back to work.  Every Wednesday morning at 10 they would go to yoga and come home for a nap.

A few weeks ago, baby yoga got cancelled for good.  Bummer. Might have to start baby meditation now, help HH re-find her zen.

2013

…is over.  And after the last month+ being mostly gray and gross, the first day of 2014 was pretty glorious by January in Kentucky standards.  Clear clear skies and mild wind.  Wintery glory.

And so, a day or three behind every other blogger out there (because that is how I roll), a brief 2013 recap:

Races:

img_20130317_1515291

I did exactly one: the NYC ING half marathon in April.  Kind of a sad list considering the past few years, but this trip to New York was awesome and so was the run.

Chickens:

…died.  And/or were killed by us (as humanely as possible) or wild animals.  Or at least two of them were.  One of them went to live on a big farm where she can run free and play with other chickens all day long.  No, seriously, she did.

Babies:

Had one.  Was a little miffed that, although I delivered in August, in Kentucky, I was never offered a sufferin’ towel.

Garden:

Pretty successful, if relatively uneventful, year for the garden.  Never found a better solution for turnips than mashing them up and serving with butter.

Still here.  Still kickin ass.  (Proof: here.)

To cap it all off, I celebrated NYE with Spike, Nerlens, and HH at home (Paul is still traveling for residency interviews) and took exactly two pictures to commemorate the occasion.

IMG_20140101_202854Nerlens making it really difficult for me to take advantage of some quiet time with my book

IMG_20140101_202744…and HH totally enthralled by Frances Ha.

Wow.  With all of these monumental events it’s a wonder this blog doesn’t have more traffic.

In summary, 2013 was a pretty great year for me on a personal level.  Looking forward to the next one, though.  Think it might be even better.

Happy 2014.

Someone went to Boston for the first time and got a hat for the occasion.  First time on a plane.  First time out of Kentucky.  First time meeting family.  First time with the duck boats.

Despite a few massive BMs when going through security, she was a champ during both flights.

This was a trip to see family, so it involved lots of chaos and yelling (happy yelling, that’s just how this side of the family talks to each other) and food and, of course, beeah and the Pats.

(At one point Paul actually asked me, “Wait, why is there a Dunkin Donuts on every corner?”)

HH also got to meet her great granny.

They bonded over not having any teeth.

Now we’re back in Kentucky, it is really dark and really rainy and I am feeling really uninspired (if that isn’t obvious).   ALTHOUGH!  The office advent calendar is out again!  Of course!  Right next to my desk!  Because it’s Advent!  Which means every morning there is a gathering right by the entrance to my cube.

This morning’s gathering turned into a verbal confrontation between a Catholic coworker and another coworker who is the wife of a Baptist minister.  Apparently the Catholic woman stole the Jesus out of the Baptist woman’s nativity scene that she set up by her desk, because Jesus hasn’t been born yet.  This is the ADVENT.  We’re waiting and preparing.

Anyway, the theme for this year’s calendar?

Angry birds.  I built the green pig.

More energy to follow.

Danger zone

20131127_113426

This sign was posted on the front door of our office…which you reach after you’ve walked across the parking lot covered in a sheet of ice.  “Genius”.

Speaking of danger zones, tomorrow morning first thing we are hopping on a plane with you know who to fly to Boston.

20131127_075722To say that I’m nervous would be an understatement.

Also, fun Thanksgiving fact I just learned from a friend (who happens to be an amazing beer critic/writer/I’m not sure what her official title is), the pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock instead of continuing down to Virginia, their intended destination, because they ran out of beer.   Seems perfectly logical to me.

Have a happy, healthy, warm Thanksgiving.

Bluck Blucka Bluck MUCKA BLUCKA!

Music Mondays! (I just made that up, I think this is the first time I’ve ever posted anything musical on a Monday).  Either way, this song/video is  someone’s current favorite.

IMG_20131112_090915

Paul plays it to calm her down.   (You can tell she was angry before, because when she gets upset she pulls her hair/grabs her ears.  She still has one hand on her head gripping her hair, which means she’s still deciding whether or not she’s pissed.)

It is also a song that will be stuck in your head the rest of the day.  You’re welcome.

Get Crazy

Weekends around here.  I mean…

(And yes, I realize the video is objectively not that funny, but obviously I thought it was hilarious.  Weird things happen when you don’t sleep.)

P.S. I promise to lighten up on the baby posts soon.

Happy Monday.
